About Us
It used to be thought that addiction could be overcome by “trying harder”. We now understand that substance use disorders are complex interactions amongst biological, environmental, social and cultural factors. What will it take to discover life-changing therapies, including cures for addition? Research.
Founded in 2021, Addiction Research Institute (ARI) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to fund medical breakthroughs to cure the disease of addiction. ARI’s grants program targets innovative research across multiple disciplines that target addiction cures, much like similar programs at the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
Addiction Research Institute doesn’t have laboratories. We work with the top minds studying the disease from every angle. Every ARI-funded grant, now and in the future, is meant to move us closer to a world without substance use disorders.
However, we are just starting and while cancer research has granted more than $5 billion to researchers since 1946 (per cancer.org), independent funding for addiction research is close to zero. We want to change that. Help us accelerate breakthroughs on the way to curing this widespread and distractive condition.
